Sending smiles across the miles to Mrs Lewis in Kenya

This week our school community is continuing to think of Mrs Marie Lewis who is many  miles away  as she continues her voluntary  work training other midwifes in Kenya. We are very grateful for the time she has spent launching our Link with Bishop Nadingu School in Molo, Kenya.Below are two extracts from her Blog this  weekend

The crops,'After playing with the children we returned to Esther’s house for lunch and played with her grandchildren. We visited Esther’s husbands business. He has a timber yard. Then we visited Esther’s friends house to see her fruit trees. She grows advocado, oranges, mango, bananas, passion fruit. It was funny to see the things  we buy in supermarkets growing here in a garden.'

     Mini Bus Travel

'Then we walked through the streets of Kenyans trying to sell us things until we reached a coffee shop. Magdaline lost track of time and it was dark when we got back on the Matatu- Matatu’s have 12 seats. By the time we reached Molo 2 hours later there were 28 people on the bus. Kenyans just open the doors and jump in in random places. If there are no seats they just push in and sit squashed up with you. 28 people on a 12 seater was a new and uncomfortable experience for me.'

Mrs Lewis we are thinking about you at BTCP School!

    Attendance concern.

I am concerned with the number of families taking tern time holidays..As you know I can not authorise them and they have to be reported to the authority.Fines are being considered for the new year.

Letters will be issued as. I have to monitor the education of your child.

Due to these term time holidays our school attendance % has dropped to 93% which is 3 % below our end of year % which is worrying. The school end of year results are affected by poor attendance.

I understand all the personal reasons for term time holidays, but the Welsh. Government don't accept these as learning time is a priority.

Pupils find it very difficult in catching up which also affects their confidence in learning.
